Christmas 2001/2002 Trip to Egypt

In December, 2001, our entire family returned to Egypt for the first time since 1969. We spent three weeks in the country touring the famous historic sites and visitting relatives. We unpacked in the Cairo suburb of Zemalek, then flew to Luxor, boarded a cruise ship, and sailed up the Nile to Aswan. From Aswan we flew back to Cairo and Giza, then travelled by bus to St. Catherine's Monastary in the Sinai, climbed Mt. Sinai, and drove to the Red Sea at the Gulf of Akabah, then back to Cairo. Again by bus, we passed through a Coptic monastary on the way to Alexandria and the Mediteranean, then back to Cairo. Here is some background information about Egypt from the CIA The World Fact Book 2001.
