Hawaii 2006

13 June

On my last full day in the Islands, I awoke to find window washers outside of my room, dangling several hundred feet above the ground. I probably should have been wearing pants. Later in the day, as I was lolling around the hotel pool (the beaches around the Ala Wai canal were not a good bet at the time due to the genius of Honolulu's mayor), I was able to spot a fire in the direction of University of Hawaii. The smoke was quite heavy and visible around my hotel, a mile or two away. It turned out to be a major conflagration that claimed the entirety of one of the oldest buildings on the UH Lab School campus.
